WALT: use correct punctuation in our writing

Today we did a poem called Spring Things. We had to rule out a border and put lots of drawings about spring.

What I found exiting
Was writing the poem in my book.

What I found difficult
Was drawing all the pictures

What I might do next time
Is put my book over my screen so I don't have to keep looking up and down

Magic carpet ride

The boy lean't to his left and swooped around another corner. He never felt more alive than when he was on his magic carpet.
Finding a straight stretch of road he urged the carpet to top speed, sending plumes of dust from the ground all around him. He quickly approached a woman dressed in black carrying a bowl of fruit.

The dusty golden bowl contained red juicy apples, green luxurious pears, brightly coloured oranges, and bananas as yellow as the sun. He swooped in and quickly grabbed a red juicy apple, racing away so he wouldn’t get into any trouble.
He could only hear the stones rattling on the ground. When he looked back he could only see plumes and plumes of dust in the air. He went up high in the sky and spied the lady swiping the plumes of dust away from her face.
“GET BACK HERE YOU SCUMBAG!!!!” She yelled angrily.
When the clouds of dust vanished she could see only a silent town.

Room 1 has been doing pobble 365 (magic carpet) all week.

What I found exciting.
Was putting in all the descriptive words in my writing.
What I found challenging.
Was spelling the descriptive words.
What I might do next time.
Is grab a dictionary and add even more descriptive words.

Bedtime cat.

Bedtime Cat.
There’s a lump on my bed,
A bump on my bed,
A furry purry hump on my bed,
And my mother said,

“Put the cat out”

There’s a growl outside,
A yowl outside,
A cold lonely howl outside,
And my brother cried,

“Let the cat in!”

By: Joy Cowley.

Today room 1 had to rewrite the poem (Bedtime cat) for our writing.

The thing I found exiting.
was finding all the rhyming words.
The thing I found difficult.
was looking up and down at my writing book to see if I got everything in the right place.
What I might do next time.
Is put my book in front of my screen so I don't have to keep looking up and down.

The thing that I found difficult was putting the shadow under my writing.

The thing that I found easy was finding the photo of Shane Achbold.

I might work with a buddy next time.

Maui finds his family

All of  room 1 did a storyboard. We all did one Maori myth. I was doing the one when Maui finds his family.

Next time I might read the book more so i don't have to go back and forth and find different characters.

back to school 2018

Yesterday week 2 term 1 2018. We were on stage at assembly, I was so nervous on stage but luckily there were a little bit of people at assembly. After assembly we went back to class. Mrs Wallace called the roll. Then explained what we were doing. The bell rang then it was morning tea.
Terence, Lincoln, Mahia, Eugene and I were playing ninja's vs military and ninja's won.
Then the bell rang to go back to class. Then we did some shared reading. The book we were reading was The crocodile's Christmas jandals and it was about a crocodile with Christmas jandals. After that it was lunch because we had no brain break. When it was play time Kairo and I went to go play rugby. I got 2 try saves to BJ. After lunch I went to take the scraps. Then at the end of the day Maika and I went to go open the back gate.

If I was in a small and big family

Advantages of a large family:
Having a lot of siblings is a good thing as you will always have someone to play and share with. As we grow and move around the world imagine all the holiday places we can go to.

Disadvantages of a large family:
If you are the eldest of a large family your job would be to help look after the younger ones, help prepare the meals, bath and put them to bed.

Advantages of a small family:
I will have the attention of my parents and grandparents as i am an only child. I don’t need to share my things, clothes or food with anyone.

Disadvantages of a small family:

No one to play with, sharing would be a problem, no fun going out by myself.

My favourite meal

My favourite meal is fresh fish and chips because it is filling and delightful.

Waka ama

I have watched the video.

Why.
I would like to compete in the waka ama race because I am a competitive person and I would like to meet new people and have fun with them.

Why not.
I wouldn’t like to join the waka ama race because my arms will be sore on the next day and training will be long an hard.

Aotearoa

Dear Moko,
I am leaving  today with my family on a waka . We have packed all our belongings in our waka and ready to leave. I am very excited as this is a new adventure for  me and my sisters, but in saying that i am also afraid as i do not know what is waiting for us at the end of our journey. I am gonna miss you my friend but my nanna said we are gonna be happy in our new land given to us by our tupuna, the sea is getting rough, time for me to sign off until next time I write .

For the summer learning journey I have to write 3 facts about Maui and the giant fish

Maui and the giant fish.

  • Maui had weaved a fishing line out of flax and did an old karakia to give his line strength.

  • Maui’s ancestor Murirangawhenua had given him a jawbone to use as a hook.

  • Maui had punched himself hard on the nose to make it bleed using his blood for bait to catch a fish.

  • Murirangawhenua had gifted his people a giant fish to live on.

  • Maui’s giant fish was known as the north island of aotearoa and Maui’s waka is known as the south island.

Candy floss

WALT: we had to make our own diamante poem based on a different poem. The most difficult part about this was about finding the picture for the background. The easiest thing about this is all of the describing words.

WALT: make a brain storm to help me with writing.

Headline news

WALT: write an imaginary story with a nursery rhyme starter.

UFO identified as cow "What is that" I whispered to myself. I silently crept down the stairs so my parents can't hear. I went outside then ran to the shape of a UFO. It started to come down I was getting worried. It kept coming then it landed. I was relieved. It was a cow!. I was impressed, a cow can jump that high it went so high it went over the moon. So I went  back home and went to sleep. When i woke up I went outside and everything was back to normal.

Should kids have a TV in their bedroom?

WALT:write our opinion

I'm confident kids are not allowed a TV in their bedroom.

Kids should not be allowed a TV in their room because they might miss a day of school

First of all, you might stay up long at night watching or playing on the TV and you will get tired and sleep in and possibly miss school.

Next you might get light headed.
Because you have been staring at the TV for too long. Then you won't feel well.

Finally you might have an argument about what game to play.
You and your friend will have an argument and your friendship possibly break and you won't be friends.

In conclusion I strongly believe that kids should not have a TV in their bedroom.

I think we shouldn't have smart phones in class
smart phones are distracting in class
when listening to music with headphones.
you can't hear the teacher.
smart phones can be broken.
when you drop your phone on the concret and there really expensive.
smart phones can cause fights
by people saying its theirs but its not theirs.
and that's why i don't think you can have smart phones at school.

Early Sunday morning, while it was dark, my nan, mum, sister, uncles, aunt and I went to Waitangi because I had to do the weet-bix tryathlon.

The first thing in the triathlon was the swimming event. We had to swim for 100m, 2x as much as the northern college pool. I wore shoes because when you come back you will get sore feet.
Then you have to get your bike and walk it until you get to the hop-on sign.
We got on our bikes and we zoomed like there was fire on our wheels. We had to bike for 4km. I thought it took for ever. Then we had to go back to the place where the bikes are parked.
Lastly we had to run around the carpark then sprint to the finish line.
Then you get a gold medal, a cup of water, a photo taken and a juicy apple.

I thought it was lots of fun and way more challenging than cross country.
